A customizable Graphical User Interface to curate personal portable libraries for offline file sharing of digital publications.
The User Interface is designed to meet the special requirements of offline text sharing, embedding usability and customization into portable digital file distribution tools – so-called “Offline Libraries”. Offline Libraries serve as an alternative model for the distribution of digital texts that allows specific communities to form and share their own collections. It is a tool to spread knowledge into areas without access to online resources, but can also act as a response to online surveillance offering a secure way for local file sharing.
The fully responsive design enables the user to upload digital publications, add metadata, curate collections, browse and search for specific content, download the material and customize certain design aspects of the interface. It also provides automated cover generation for the uploaded content.
It is based on the “LibraryBox v2.0” system, using a router with external memory to wirelessly connect to other devices and to store the data locally. Users only need to connect to the router’s network and open any internet browser to get to the Open-Here Offline Library’s captive portal page to immediately interact with it.
